💜Description: This book was a book written for a 1st grade level about natural disasters and how and why that they actually happen. There's photos and a description of what's going on from page to page.💜What I like: The facts were really engaging and interesting. The pages were extremely easy to read and it was pretty obvious about what picture went to what disaster.💜What I didn't like: Though I know it's impossible, but having some cartoon like photos of disasters stuck in between actual photos to me seems a bit strange. One page has an actual mountain for an avalanche while the page before it showed a cartoon photo of a tsunami. Not saying I'd like a 1st grader to read a book with an actual tsunami photo but I also think some more realism would have been a ton better than the cartoon type of photos.💜My recommendation: This book was a very nice read for me, and I'm sure if I'd share it with my step daughter or anyone else who's young and is learning about disasters and weather that it would be very easy to understand. It's not complex, and the grammar is correct. I would be openly willing to read it to anyone under the age of 10 or have the read it back to me. If this book was available in th stores I know I'd pick it up.I received this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion

Natural Disasters, What and Why. Warning this review contains spoilers. I really love that this book because it starts out with the definition of natural disaster. The point made that natural disasters are part of a natural process is good and it rightfully implies that natural disasters are not made by man. This book introduces 8 different natural disasters. It has great pictures that are on each page with accompanying text describing the natural disaster pictured. The first natural disaster introduced is a tropical cyclone. They included a good picture to go along with the text, which really grabs kids’ attention while you are reading the description of what they are looking at.They move logically to the next natural disaster a hurricane. I really love their description of how a hurricane forms. The picture accompanying the text is a picture of a hurricane taken from space. The next 2 pages are dedicated to explaining what an earthquake is. I really feel that all the definitions are very age appropriate, and will give first graders a good idea about some of the damage caused by natural disasters. I really liked the picture they choose of a destroyed road to go along with the description. It shows just how strong an earthquake can be, as evidenced by a broken road.Next we learned about tornadoes. This book again has good definitions and pictures that are on every page so kids can see what is being described.Next was volcanoes and I am pleased to see that they mention the gasses that come from the volcano during and eruption. I think something about how hot lava is should have been mentioned.I like the description of tsunami. It is very accurate to be described as large waves caused by an earthquake.Avalanches are next and the pictures here are great. I love the description on the first page. The description on the second page while accurate, is a little harder to understand. “Our last natural disaster, a drought. The description uses the word precipitation which is an excellent word to be introduced to first graders. The pictures show the result of drought and that drought can occur anywhere in the world.I received this kindle e-book for free in exchange for my honest review.

Natural Disasters, What and Why. Warning this review contains spoilers. I really love that this book starts out with the definition of natural disaster. The point made that natural disasters are part of a natural process is good. This rightfully implies that natural disasters are not man made. This book introduces 8 different natural disasters. It has great pictures that are on each page with accompanying text describing the natural disaster pictured. I think that this is a great book to introduce first graders to natural disasters. The first natural disaster we are introduced to is a tropical cyclone. They included a good picture to go along with the text. This grabs kids’ attention while you are reading a description of what they are looking at. They move logically to the next natural disaster a hurricane. I like their description of how a hurricane forms. The picture accompanying the text is a picture of a hurricane taken from space. I always like seeing pictures like this, they help me to see just how big some of these storms are. The next 2 pages are dedicated to explaining what an earthquake is. I think all the definitions are very age appropriate, and will give first graders a good idea about some of the damage caused by natural disasters. I really liked the picture they choose of a destroyed road to go along with the description. It shows just how strong an earthquake can be, as evidenced by a broken road. Then moving on from earthquakes we learn about tornadoes. This book has good definitions and pictures that are on every page so kids can see what is being described. This is the point in the book where some pictures are obviously photo shopped. The first tornado picture is legit, the second one I’m not too sure of. (yes I have seen tornadoes in real life) Moving along we learn about volcanoes. I am glad that it is mentioned that poisonous gasses and lava is released during an eruption. I think this would have been a great opportunity to define lava, but sadly they didn’t. You don’t want to be too close to an active eruption because it is very hot. I think something about how hot lava is should have been mentioned. Now let’s learn about tsunamis. I like the description of tsunami. It is very accurate to be described as large waves caused by an earthquake. Both pictures here are obviously photo shopped. I understand that they wanted to show a picture of a tsunami, but at least choose a high quality realistic photo, not one that has a face three times the height of a 5 story building. Avalanche! The pictures here are great. I love the description on the first page. The description on the second page while accurate, is harder to understand. “An accumulation of too much snow for the slope’s angle” is a hard concept to grasp without a picture showing that. Finally, our last natural disaster, a drought. The description uses the word precipitation, I think it is a great word to be introducing to first graders. The pictures show the result of drought and that drought can occur anywhere in the world. I received this kindle e-book for free, (at the time of my review it is free to everyone,) in exchange for my honest review.
